Struggle

This is not about current events, but the timeless nature of man.  We repeat the mistakes of the past, because we are drawn to the flame.  And, if one does not, another will. Vigilance is required.

To live in civil society requires self-control. If one cannot control the self, society will attempt to do so through punitive measures. Consistent control of the self is not possible. There is a gap between the controller and the controlled, and therefore conflict, struggle.

Struggle is the essence of life. The opportunity to resolve conflict and restore balance; the resulting peace and joy is our great treasure. To bring about order, first inwardly then externally. This is what great sages have taught throughout human existence.

Many sages have died violently. A revered holy man and his people live in exile, escaping the threat of violence. Other holy men are violence. Life is not fair.  Fairness is not natural, but conceptual. Humans are imperfect.

One man walks across a stage and dominates another. One man across a border. Neither is a complicated geopolitical struggle, rather fear and doubt. The difference, access to power. Power corrupts. Doubt destroys.

Beyond the intellect, truth pervades. When we stand naked before the eye of providence, what will be seen?

The solace, nature’s perfection. How could it not be?

“There are two planes on which man dwells. They both have the goal of victory. The animalistic plane is that of duality. The egoless plane is that of the void from which there is no center to compare or compete. Both require a constant vigilance to achieve victory. One over others and one over the self.” - Unknown

POSTSCRIPT
We can never separate ourselves from what we are. Rather, we must learn to be aware in the absolute critical moment conflict arises and restore balance.
